Hey! My name is Johnathan

I’m a sound designer and experimental soundtrack artist living in Portland, OR.

For the past 15 years I’ve been a musician, artist, project manager, and recently I decided to transition to the world of sound design.

Need sound design for your short film, video game, or world conquering ideas?

Let’s talk!

Arrival Rescore

The original score for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival by Jóhann Jóhannsson is a masterpiece. In this experiment, I attempted to subtly boost the tension and fear surrounding Amy Adam’s first encounter with alien life.

All sounds were created with hardware and later shaped and mastered in Logic Pro using several built in tools.

Sicario Rescore

In Sicario, director Denis Villeneuve tells the story of a principled FBI special agent who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel.

I created an alternative version of the soundtrack that plays during the mission to Juarez. Using distorted oscillators and synths, I attempted to foreshadow the immense danger the team would soon encounter. All sounds were created with hardware and and mastered in Logic Pro.

Sound Design Challenge from Alumbra Audio

Alumbra Audio hosted a challenge in May 2025 for sound designers to create an audio environment for this amazing 3D animation by artist Paulo Marini. This was my entry. I took some vintage signal testing devices from the studio and recorded myself turning the clicking knobs. Using Logic Pro, I layered the sounds to create my own version of what Rubik's cubes might sound like when in motion.

Audio Projects

Beneath The Bracken

As an experimental artist, I’ve been toying with sound and texture for over a decade. Beneath The Bracken is an album created for a movie that doesn’t exist. A post-apocalyptic world where strength is useless and knowledge is survival.

Recorded in Portland, OR in 2025.

No Space We Know

Recorded live over the course of an evening performance at The Six in Portland, OR in 2024.

After a lengthy trip to the vacant moors of Ireland, No Space We Know was created to evoke a dreadful sense of longing and loss.
